Spa - Microdermabrasion
What it is?
Microderabrasion is a form of polishing the epidermis through a controlled
stream of mineral crystals. The crystals are blown onto the epidermis and then
gently vacuumed off, clearing dead cell debris.
We are very pleased to announce the addition of microdermabrasion; a safe and
unique skin care service. Microdermabrasion is the most exciting recent option
to become available in the U.S. Skin Care industry since alpha/beta-hydroxy
acids. Microdermabrasion has been here in the U.S. for about ten years, and
twenty years in Europe. This is truly a breakthrough in skin care technology!
What it can do for you skin?
Our skin is the largest living organ of the body, and acts as a covering and
filter. Every 28 days, cells from the dermis (the deepest layer of our skin)
move upward to the epidermis (the top layer of the skin). Children have a rapid
turnover and shedding of cells (about 3-4 days), leaving their skin smooth and
clear. In adults, the entire process slows down to a 28 – 42 day cycle. Rarely
do we ever see children with skin problems! As we age, our cells become
extremely sticky, and are not shed effectively. Sticky dead cell debris will mix
with sebaceous oils and fill pores, causing a plug to form. If not cleared out
of large pores, air will oxidize this mixture causing a blackhead. If the
opening of the pore is small in size, a small whitehead will form. Dead cell
debris will form a seal over pores, causing clogging and congestion. As toxins,
hormonal fluids, perspiration, and oils are released through the skin, blockage
can create a variety of problems (imagine the cork in a bottle) and concerns. If
left untreated, acne may develop. For those with dryer skin, small flesh colored
bumps (closed comedos/whiteheads) often become visible and overtime will
calcify.
The only option for removal is by surgery, or aggressive microdermabrasion.
Hyperpigmented (darkened) skin cells will accumulate on the face, creating an
uneven, splotchy appearance. Microdermabrasion can, and will, give skin that
natural glow that many of us have not seen for years!! It is a highly effective
treatment for acne/acne prone/acne scars, fine lines, and wrinkles as well.
Clearing off normal and darkened debris will make the skin clearer, brighter,
lighter, fresher, and healthier!
